Dear Josephine,
1. Presently, from my personal observations, so far, I do not recall or find anyone, who was directly affected with books facing them.
2. However, based on the concept of " If one no longer sees it, it does not become a - threat ". One option, if you still want to cover the bookself is using e.g. a cloth or something of that nature or install cabinet doors.
3. Is the pillar pointed at the bed? If the pillar is not pointed towards the bed (but parallel to it this is OK. Not much one can do otherwise (to extend the "wall" or pillar such that it no longer becomes a pointed corner).
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
