Dear Marla,

In Feng Shui, symbolism is very important. Let me illustrate by giving you a
few examples:-

1. A glass crystal in the shape of a Triangle or conice is considered as a
`Fire' element because of it's shape.
2. A metal candle holder with a candle (with flame) is considered to be made
of two elements i.e. metal (candle holder) and flame (fire element).
3. The other factor is the colour. Red, pink or purple represent the " Fire"
element.

In your case, perhaps you can let me know:-

1. What colour is your mexican tile.
2. Is it made of ceramic i.e. natural stone, earth.
3. Are there any designs on it?
4. Is the tile smooth or has a rough surface?
5. Each tile: Is it square or rectangle or other shape?
6. Are there any designs on it e.g. triangle motif etc?? If so what colour
are the designs.

Sorry to ask so many questions but if you have the time, do let me know so
that I can advise you properly what element it is.

With regards to the centre Fire place, an auspicious house normally should
have no one element `dominating the centre place. Preferably keep it `clear'
or empty. But in your case, you may not have a choice if you need to use it.
But if you do not need to use the fire place, you can leave it there. This
is considered keeping it `clear'. Normally, you do not need to do a Flying
Star assessment but I know some FS practioners may consider the Fire place
acceptable at the centre under some conditions of the Flying Star. However,
personally, I still feel that if you do not need to use the location, this
would do just fine.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil

>I am very very new to Feng Shui, I am enjoying the new possibilities of
getting my home in order. I have mexican tile almost everywhere in my
house, bedrooms are the only exception. I need to know what element this
tile is considered. I assume it is earth. Also we have a centrally
located fireplace. What can I do short of ripping it out. Thanks Marla
