Dear James,
Thanks for providing a description of your home.
Overall, if I get what you wrote correctly, the water is on the `East' side (front) of your home.
Are there any windows on this side of the house facing the pool?

>conflicting to the house?
If you are applying the 5 elements concept, it would not be the most important principle relating to this situation. The Four Symbolic Animal theory http://www.3dglobe.com/fs/four.htm take precedence over this theory.
What you have is something like a pool of water which is equivalent of the `Bird' or Red Phoenix of the Four Symbolic Animal Theory where, this is good because normally when there is water on the ground, the `view is unhindered'.
I also `face' the same situation as you. I live in a condominium where the house is North to South facing and there is a pool exactly on the South. This is perfectly OK.
This follows the Chinese concept called " Ming Tang " where it is considered auspicious to have a pool of water infront of your building. However, the water must never be stagnant water.
There is another situation. If you are stand at your main entrance door looking out of your house. If there is a pool of water on the right side of the house, your husband may have wondering eyes or may have an affair!
Feng Shui is indeed facinating and we will discuss more of the Dragon Water Classics in the future!
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
