Presently the THREE most common things that Geomancers mislead the consumers are:-

ONE: 1. Bogus Education Qualifications

The tell tale sign is when the Geomancer says that he is a Doctor or have a PHD. And in many instances dare not show which University or place a link to the university.

In many instances, the Geomancer has purchased a bogus degree, Doctorate or PHD from a bogus unrecognised place.

A good practice is to put a hyper-link to their Higher Education (HE) institute. Usually, such hyperlinks will be checked sometime by the HE or people interested in the person.

TWO: 2. Unsubstantiated Claims that clients WON "BIG" in a lottery

Every few months the practitioner would attract the gullible with claims that their client has won large sums from the lottery.

In this instance, the Geomancer will continue to brag about so many of their clients getting fithly rich. But you will never see anyone coming forward to substantiate their claims. 

The characteristics of such a Geomancer is that they will never fail to brag about their success(ess) in every single of their write-up! And always also brag about how many people are participating in their wonderful blog / forum!

Morale of the story: Can CON a child, but, some adults still got CONNED by these people. These Geomancers try to tap on our inert desire of " Greed, Begets Greed!"

THREE: 3. The Geomancer will give advice and then most of the time; recommend a product. And when asked: "Where do I get the item?"

The Geomancer will happily say: "Come to my shop, I have it!". As a result, many are CONNED into buying thousands of dollars of useless commercial products.

My advice: Avoid these people like the plague!

FOUR: 4. Scare Tactics

1. Yes, this is one of the most controversial area under Feng Shui.

2. However, in order to minimize on this "problem", I like to elaborate on several key points, which at the end of it, everyone can have at least a better idea.

3. We have to understand concepts like:

3.1 Facing and Sitting directions
3.2 The "Mouth-of-the-house".

4. These two are related.

5. For a landed property, often, the main door is assumed as the "mouth-of-the-house". Since quite-alot-of landed properties have their main entrance door facing the frontage. This is common because, often we drive-up to the front of the home. And we enter thru this door.

6. However, there are some landed properties that have their main entrance at the side of the home. For example, we drive in (deeper into the home). And after parking, the main door is at the side.

Here, if there are a row of landed properties on the same side of our landed property or if this main door faces the side-of-another landed property (in very close proximity), then we often should not use this main door as the main door. But rather, find out where is the frontage of the home. (Does this sound familiar to some apartments that we have viewed or lived-in?)

7. The "mouth-of-the-house". Under Feng Shui, the mouth of the house is considered very important, because this is where qi comes into the home. And this qi is said to have an influence on the home.

8. In a landed property, again, often, the main door is considered the "mouth-of-the-house". But often it is this collective main door and the frontage e.g. windows at this frontage, that is known as the facing direction.

9. Therefore, we can understand that the facing direction is where air or majority of air is said to flow into the home. This is like when we drive an-open-top car, air literally flows at our face. And it is this majority of qi or air flow that we want to determine. And this is where, we consider the facing or mouth-of-the-house.

10. Once we find this facing direction, the sitting direction is easy. Since it is directly opposite the facing direction.

Part II

1. Further to what I had mentioned, sometimes, it may be easier to determine the sitting position. Especially if there is a distinct hill or slope e.g. behind the property. We could "safely" say that the facing is directly opposite this.

2. In Singapore, especially for the 3 room Housing and Development Board flats (HDB), we often find that we enter the apartment from the front. And it is easy to say that this is often the facing direction or the "mouth-of-the-house".

3. However, nowadays, many apartments are squeezed so tight and clustered in a snake like formation, the main door can nearly be at any direction.

4. For a condo or apartment. It is best to check on one's life-style habit. Does one often leave the main door open? Or close it most of the time?

5. For many who live in a condo, I have seen majority of the residents close the main door (unless they fixed a grille at the main door). Yet, many do close this door. If we do close this door, then, it does not make much sense to say that this is the "mouth-of-the-house".

6. Furthermore, many condos and even new HDB apartments have main doors at "odd" placement. And often, if we have to negotiate a turn into the home from the main door, most likely, this may not be the natural "facing direction".

7. This is similiar to what I had mentioned for a landed property under Para 1, where if the main door is at the side. And if there are other landed properties where this main door faces the side of the neighbour's apartment, most likely this should not be the main door.

8. In fact, I am very sadden by the fact that, some local practitioners try to scare their would be clients not to take up Feng Shui from others who do not take readings from the main door of an apartment.

9. Look at it this way, countries like Singapore and Hong Kong have majority of their residents staying in an apartment (condo or HDB) and Feng Shui for apartments is quite modern. And as mentioned above, the main door can be located at very odd locations and it should not be construde as the main door.

10. I believe, many of such practitioners either live in the stone age or most likely wear spectacles but if one peers closely at their spectacles, these spectacles have "tunnel vision lens".

11.  Therefore, check to see where is most likely the "mouth-of-the-house". And in many of the common approaches are:

11.1 If the home has four sides of windows, try to figure out, firstly which side has more light. The idea of more light is more practical than the amount of wind coming into a home.

11.2 More light would often suggest, that there are more floor area of window or the mouth-of-the house.

11.3 To use the amount of wind blowing into the windows etc.. may not be an exact science, since, high /low pressures within a day can differ. Therefore, wind can blow from any side of the home at any given time. This is particuarly true for an island like Singapore, which is surrounded by water. And it is said that in a high pressure days, air circulate either clock-wise or anti-clockwise for low pressure days.

12. The idea that the higher one's apartment is, we should take the reading from the balcony or the location where most light comes in makes more sense also. Many people feel that when our apartment goes as high as 6, 7 or 8th storeys, and if we do see much light coming thru, here, then this should be the mouth-of-the house.

13. However, if one lives in a highrise, and if our views are blocked by an immediate neigbhouring block and if we have the habbit to open the main door (leaving it open most of the time), then, even if at a higher storey, we could then perhaps, use this as the main door.

13. Given, the above examples, one can therefore see that there is no right or wrong answers.

14. More importantly, if you do check on a practitioner, check to see if the practitioner use the term "IT DEPENDS". If so, the practitioner is most likely a better practitioner - who does not go for only one method.

15. If the practitioner - says that every other method is WRONG! It must be the main door, please steer clear of this "dead-wood", myopic practitioner! Unfortunately, there are many of these in Singapore. It shows how inflexible, such people are.

Feng Shui was developed at the time where there were few if any highrise. And, it is very sad to say that many of such schools, feel that only their method is RIGHT and sometimes, these practitioners will quote some famous practitioners dead or alive. Who cares, do remember the fundamentals and we are better off.

1. Feng Shui is natural and influenced by qi from the earth (magnetism).

2. However, if one of these two things come into being:-

2.1. For some, when you enter a home and suddenly feel a sudden cold (mostly in dim areas) e.g. closet or attic area.

2.2. When one carry a compass and the compass needle goes hay-wire;

3. When a home has been possed; you can count out Feng Shui as such influences will superseed the Feng Shui of a place. Thus, under such circumstances, it is best to call for help from another field: especially priests.

4. The idea here is that Feng Shui can be over-ridden by other "stronger" forces beyond the natural!

5. For us Geomancer, usually once the instrument used to detect such things .. go hay wire... it is time to throw them away.. else.. will be afflicted by health issues. This is so called the "health hazard" of a normal geomancer.

6. In old homes; some hauntings may occur, especially when some start to do renovation works at the place where there spirits "live". And when disturbed; they will certainly come out and give the family a piece of their mind.

7. To avoid such any hauntings in a home: you must never play with a Weegee board or ouija kind of a board. What is this board? It is some like a cardboard where alphabets are imprinted on it. And a group of people e.g. 3 persons, place their finger on small cup. And call a "spirit" to answer their question. Usually the spirit will reply by moving the cup towards an alphabet.

8. There are known cases where, some people have played with it in their homes and subsequently for fear, burnt the board. Never, never burnt the board as once it is burnt after performing such "rituals"; it seems that the gateway is never "closed" and this gateway can lead to hauntings and what nots...

9. So remember, don't ever think of playing with such things! You may invited the wrong ... thing into your home!

1. There is no secret that many of us longed to have some greenery in our (lives) in our homes.

2. Many bring in several pots of plants and when they are too busy; the plants easily die.

3. There is no secret involved in keeping the plants in perpetual longevity!

4. I have always observed in my many walk-arounds of apartments; many homes keep potted plants. And many if not all medium sized to large sized pots have thriving plants.. while all or most small sized pots.. have whiltered plants.

5. Commonsense prevails that with a larger pot; occassional watering may be sufficient in order not to let the plants whilter. And if one is too busy some get away with just watering the plants on weekends.

Ordinary items can be used to activate mountain star #8.

But... but.. but... how to activate the mountain star #8 with hay???

One of the best key success stories of a landed property are the birds, the bees and the trees - good landscaping.

One cannot simply have a concrete jungle but rather, a good eco system of trees, bees, birds, butterflies, grasshoppers ........

1. Apologies, the photos are not that clear. But I hope you can understand the concept, here.

2. For the Chinese, it is considered inauspicious to hang a row of three-pendant lights in a straight line.

3. This is especially so, if it can be seen immediately when one come into a home.

4. For example, often may condos have a short entrance and the dining table is in full view of it. Here, many Chinese avoid hanging a string of three-pendant lights.

5. Why is this so? The three-pendant light is symbolic of three joss-stickers that we (Chinese) pray - or give respect to the dead at a Chinese wake (funeral parlour).

6. No worries, if we do have a row of three-straight pendant lights; then, we can follow the examples under attachments:

6.1. Here, we just either:-

6.1.1. Shorten slightly the wires holding the middle pendant light: refer to cascading-lights.jpg

or

6.1.2. Stagger the wires of each of the three pendant lights: refer to cascading-lights1.jpg

6.2. In this way, we don't need to totally replace an existing three pendant lights.

On closer look... OH! I know...!

Under symbolism in Feng Shui, blue roof tiles represents water over the ceiling of the entire house.

Under I-Ching, water represents difficulty.

If my home's roof is already blue what should I do? The exterior wall should be painted white vs cream colour.

And if the roof is grey, it is also best to paint the exterior of the home white not cream or other colour.

A home with high walls and lots of tall trees does not encourage good qi to circulate within the home.

In fact, too many tall trees cast a shadow onto the ground, making the home too yin.

A bright hall effect is something like an open space or court yard where qi both yang qi: good lighting and space for "qi" to "collect"...

If in doubt never (never) display ambiguous stones or objects in a home. Or where it looks like a "mouth" facing into one's home...

1. Fundamentally, one of the most basic commonsense approach to Feng Shui is "space clearing".

2. I found this attached article interesting!

3. As it underlines the "root cause of clutter" by clutter management instead of continously buying more say; storage boxes to stack higher and higher until there is really no more space in the home!

Can a lamp become a poison arrow?

If the lamp has a pointed shape: bottom sharp point like a pencil point; and if it is placed at a balcony ... it can become a poison arrow aimed towards a home...

1. How nice if we can create man made water falls that has water flowing vigourously ... in an area.

2. Here, when water frictions with air, it is suppose to create negative ions. And negative ions is suppose to bond with positive ions - found in cigarette smoke, certain chemicals and virus.

3. That is why, the air around a real water fall is always... refreshing and healthy...

For a partition, when we slant pieces of wood as shown in the example; it may inadvertently become a poison arrow...

1. Geomancy.net could easily have made millions selling products in the Name-of-Feng Shui!

5. In Singapore, at least 7 out of 10 Geomancers are only keen to promote modern commercial Feng Shui products - thru our human greed.. or hope to make it rich!

6. When the buying stops, the selling can!

7. Visit the Geomancer's website: Are they selling commercial products? YES? Go somewhere else! These are indirect cheaters and con-persons! Male or Female: all belong to the same "Kind".

8. Before taking up their service: Check with them: Other than the Feng Shui fees are you going to sell me anything else?

1. Traditionally, when a casket is brought into a home; for the last time, the head faces the "door" (often the main entrance door).

2. When sleeping, the Chinese avoid sleeping with the head directly facing the bedroom door:

2.1. For the above para 1 reason
2.2. Often when we have our head away from the door, we cannot see who is coming into our bedroom.

3. Please note that any object within this RED marking "A" facing the window is considered a poison arrow.

4. Anything out of the RED marking "A" (e.g. blue zone) IS NO longer considered a poison arrow aimed at that window.

1. After the rain has stopped; it is a good idea to occassionally open all windows and doors to refresh the air in the home.

2. This will do wonders to the qi in the home. Best? it is FREE!

1. Fire element can be considered as a colour & /or lighting.

2. Often a Geomancer may advice the client to neutralise #3: Disputes, Quarrels & Romance issues with lighting.

3. For example, a red lamp can be used to help neutralise the #3.

4. Nowadays, energy saving & low heat direct connect to power point 110 / 240 volts light socket.

5. Between the white led vs the red led, the red led light is preferred to help neutralise or counteract #3.

6. These led lights can be safely turned on 24 hours to neutralise #3.

Note: Best to consult your Geomancer as #3 is taken out of context from the entire Flying Star chart. A proper analysis of both the WS# , MS# and Base# should be considered; instead of automatically applying this "cure" to any #3 that you may find under your Flying Star Chart.

1. Under Symbolism in Feng Shui, it is considered inauspicious to accept or approve the placement of any signage especially if there is a "spilt" in the middle of the signage:

1.1. It literally symbolises a "split" or disharmony of family relationships.

1.2. Under commonsense approach, there is a literal or real split due to wear and tear at the top middle portion of the signage as shown under red marking "A".

2. For business, it is more important to specify that your company signage should not be split in the middle - if possible. Thus instead of two pieces joined together, if really no choice at least a three piece background would be better choice.

1. Under symbolism in Feng Shui; it is best not to use blue-tinted window glass for a home.

2. This could be the actual blue tint in the window glass plane OR blue-tint film on pasted on a clear glass.

3. As this blue-tint symbolises "water element". And symbolically, it implies water = wealth leaking out of the home or apartment. One way to redress this is to use white or cream "day curtain" to help retain the "water".

4. As white or cream represents metal element. Golden coloured blinds or curtains added to such windows are equally applicable.

5. What about other coloured tints: black? grey? brown or green? All these colours are acceptable.

Pictures show a sha qi (poison arrow) of a curved road aimed towards the frontage of a terrace house.

To reduce the impact of the sha qi (poison arrow), the home was designed such that the main entrance door is away from this direct poison arrow. (Please see picture[s] ) And also, the windows facing this curved road is higher and smaller than normal.

1. Many homes have a false partition in the living room.

2. Often these partition are made of light-weight materials such as gypsum board.

3. In Feng Shui, such "beams" are often a non-issue. Rather, it is more of an "eye-sore" for some people. As they wrongly perceive that such a partition looks more like a "beam"; say when they sit directly below this "beam" in the living room sofa. Please refer to this attachment: beam-above-living-room-sofa-set-1.jpg

4. As mentioned, it is more of an illusiion, rather than a real concern in Feng Shui. But, if we continue to get feedback e.g. visitors to our home, family members or relatives frequently commenting that it is "no-good" or inauspicious, we may feel very uncomfortable with it.

5. Interestingly, there are many ways of avoiding it. One way is not to have a false ceiling! Another method can be seen in this picture:-

6. The above is a unique way to solve the problem. As the false ceiling extends well beyond one's sitting area "all flat".

1. What has this article: Monsoon Winds got to do with Feng Shui (installation of a partition).

2. Many homes install a partition so that the main door does not directly face a window or a balcony opening.

3. But does it matter whether the partition is a FIXED partition or one of those panels - often it comes in three or four panels? These three or four panels are usually placed in V shaped so that they can "stand-up".

4. Commonsense approach to Feng Shui says that:-

4.1. At times when it can be windy in a home, it may be a safety concern with such "moveable" partitions. It may become a "danger" to family members. As such moveable partitions (unlike fixed ones) may be blown down by the wind. And may inadvertently hurt especially the young, the aged and even healthy adults!

So remember, place a partition if you want, but do remember that moveable ones.. may pose a danger to you and your family members!

Q. I am interested to find out which day of the Lunar New Year is the best day to start work. Please let me know where to get these details.

 A) For most business, we normally use a more general ruleset that is:-

Generally, most will either start/open business on the 2nd day or 4th day Chinese New Year. Usually, 3rd day is always avoided as it is faithful dog day, where there are some superstitious belief. For longer rest period, it is always best to open on the either 5th or 6th day for at least a few hours. After which, you can start at any day after that.

You can always follow this if your company has determined which day it will start business. This will not really consider any personalisation using any auspicious date or etc. But it has been a standard guide that most business will use.

B) For individual to choose the day to start work, you can either follow the above general ruleset, or if you are more particular about a good start. Then choose the date that is auspicious for you to start work. For this, you can use the free auspicious date report on our website:-

This is better than choosing just dates that are good for you based on your ba zi, as the ba zi does not consider if the day is good or not. So normally we do not use it for selecting a good date.

Thus either follow the general ruleset as per method A. Or for a more personalised method for individual, you choose the date which is auspicious to start work as in method B. 

Either method would be the better method for choosing the 1st day of work after the CNY.

In a past Germany, study, it was found that there was a high correlation of cancer especially when a bed was placed above sewerage pipes running beneath the home!

Avoid, sleeping with the sewerage pipe running below, one's bed!

NO TWO HOMES ARE THE SAME! A Ferrari??

1. Not all EXISTING homes may benefit from Feng Shui.

2. For example, even before some homes were built, they were "condemned" when the drainage out of the home cause loss of wealth and/or power and authority.

3. Some homes can benefit directly, for example, the living room is at water wealth location. And, activating such a location can result in a 1,000 cc house (car) turning into a Ferrari.

4. Unfortunately, for some homes, it will forever be equivalent to a 10 year old run down 1,000cc car; such as this caricature, shows:-

The drainage of ALL PLOT of land can affect either wealth retention, wealth accumulation or becoming successful or powerful in business or even in politics!

Most plot of land have TWO or THREE directions where drainage out of the property can yield: either $$$$ or Power and authority!

And the rest of the drainage, depending also whether drainage goes from left to right or right of the main entrance will affect your wealth or power and authority in business, career or politics.....

Dear Sir:

I just want to seek advice and clarification on matters regarding the number of steps on the staircase.  I have read your replies on inquiries written here and have been browsing related topics about this in the internet but only your site explained  in more detail how to identify the auspicious number of steps.  I understand that there are auspicious number of steps such as 1,2,5,10,13,14,17,22, etc.

Firstly, my apologoies if I would be comparing it with the book I have which was written by Professor Charlie Chao entitled Practical Feng-Shui.  I just want to seek clarification with regards to landings.

I am currently doing my own layout plan of my simple house.  I got stuck, confused  and kept on erasing when I have to consider the steps of my staircase.  Then finalyy I found my misplaced book of Prof. Charlie Chao.  In his book he mentioned the auspicious number of steps the same way you did mentioned here.  However the difference between both of you is that he wrote, I quote, "To observe this as to the auspicious number of steps for the staircase, RECOUNT steps where there is a landing along the staircase."  Therefore as per my understanding, I made my drawing (Please see attachment).

In my readings of your replies, I found one illustration on how to count the steps.  I now got confused because you included the midway landing in the total number of steps.  You didn't recount therefore I now don't know that what I did is right.  If I would include the midway landing then the total number of my steps will be 20 and it would no longer be auspicious.  I learn that having a midway landing is good for the chi flow and it would be convenient and untiring for my mother to walk up the stairs with a midway landing. 

Can you please help me clear up my confusion?  Do I have to revise my staircase to 22 steps?  I can't reduce to 17 steps because the distance of my floor to ceiling is 3.5 meters and 17 steps would make the height between steps high and inconvenient.  How do you define a landing to be able to recount the steps when it comes to stairs inside the house because your reply on your previous discussions focus on outside staircase wherein you can change the designs of the steps to be able to recount.

Dear Anon,

In Singapore, some clients managed to purchase the fake Chinese ancient coins to be laid before the entire flooring of the home or apartment has been completed.

Make sure that the coins are "metallic" e.g. copper coins not plastic. And last year clients purchased it at approximately S$2.50 or 25 cents each... But heard that some clients purchased at S$3.50 for 10 pieces - now (at The Bencoolen) which is diagonal to Sim Lim Square and The Bencoolen is opposite to The Burlington Square and also directly opposite OG Albert complex.

Should we convert a home from Period 7 to Period 8?

My advise is to try to chart out your home under both Periods: 7 and 8 charts. And then analyse room by room to see which is a better chart. 

If you intend to use a "box-bed" and design your own bed-head frame on the wall, do take a-look at what is auspicious and inauspicious.

Procedure:

1)    Door open by facilitator - ALL call out " PING AN FA CHAI ", then throw in PINEAPPLE (x1 pcs); then facilitator hand over the keys.

2)   Prepare RICE and GREEN BEANS - Husband & wife (no outsiders except for own or family members can be around) to sprinkle ALL over the house

-          Mix the rice and green beans together. (Leave a "cup-full" of green beans - for later placement at the living room area).

-          During this procedure, make sure that no outsiders are inside the home.

-          For example, if it is a condo, the condo facilitator must leave the apartment. Own family members can remain eg. parents).

-          The purpose is to "sow" wealth into the apartment. Thus, it is not a matter of sprinkly lots of rice/beans but rather, try to sprinkle all over the apartment inclusive of the toilets/yard.

3)   Prepare FA GAO (x2 pcs - can be brown, yellow or pink). If white colour FA GAO make sure that a circular red paper to be stuck/placed on top of the FA GAO.

-          Place one FA GAO in the middle of the room

-          while the other FA GAO with 3 oranges and 1 red packet with some money e.g. 2 dollars, 20 cents or 80 cents will do - on top of the kitchen stove.

4)   Prepare 5 types of FRUITS (include the PINEAPPLE, ORANGE/ KUM, RED APPLES, RED GRAPES, BANANA). AVOID: PEARS ONLY.

-          Grapes should preferably be purple or reddish. But not green or black coloured grapes.

-          for countable fruits such as oranges (Kum) & apples please  purchase 5 each to be placed in the middle of the living room. For a bunch like banana, or grapes, no need to count.

5)   Prepare TEA LEAVES (tie kuan yin) and place it in the middle of the living room.

6)   Prepare COTTON WOOL, WATER and a DISH for germinating the GREEN BEANS and place it in the middle of the living room.

Item# 3 - 6 : These are to be placed at the middle of the living room.

7)   In addition, at the 4 corners of the LIVING & DINING room, place a set of 2x ORANGES + 1x Red Packet of 20cts - total :  ORANGES x8 + RED PACKETs x4

8)    In addition, at the KITCHEN, place FA GAO x1 and ORANGES x3 on the stove.

-          with an ang pow with 20cents or 2 dollars or even number notes/coins will do.

-          Do not sweep the floor on the three days of placement. For example, if placed on Saturday, only sweep the floor after Monday i.e. from next Tuesday onwards ONLY.

-          After this date, all the ang pow money can be used to purchase sweets or sweet-drinks for own family consumption.

Nowadays, I do get messages (an extract) such as this statement:-

"Will there be a lot of purchases needed if the house 'fengshui' is
no  good?  One of my friend needs to spend about S$2K to purchase lots of stuffs "

Many Feng Shui practiitioners are trying to enrich themselves by not only doing "Feng Shui" but also pushing products. This will certainly make them (the practitioners) "filthy rich" at our expense.

If one reads the many messages in this forum, one can understand that many people who had purchased such products simply do not get results.

Spread the word around with your friends that such practices are akin to "con-games".

Let's put a stop to such non-sense - if we can! Simply don't support these people who hide under the guise of "Feng Shui" to tempt our greed. This is because many of the products are produced cheaply but sold at such a high mark-up to us!

Recently, we were invited to a Feng Shui fair at SAFRA. I met this Chinese Feng Shui practitoner. He also shares the same understanding that products are literally "rubbish". To the extend that he also checked with the organiser that if anyone sells such products were invited to the fair, he will also not attend it.

The morale of the story "Normal people don't buy such products. Perhaps ONLY ABNORMAL people buy them. So, do you want to be normal or abnormal?"
