Dear users,

Recently couple of users have feedback that the forum posting does not work properly for other non-Internet Explorer browsers (especially replying to an existing post). This was because the original forum posting was from the original forum software which mainly designed the editing feature just for Internet Explorer support, with limited support for other browsers.

We understand that many users now use Firefox or other non-Internet Explorer browsers. So we had worked to find a compatible forum post editing component that will work in most major browsers. (i.e. Firefox/Netscape, Opera, Apple Safari, even Google Chrome.)

I am glad to say for now that I the latest forum post, has been tested to work with most of the major browsers:-

1. Currently, there are over 406 individual caricatures under this forum's conference: Caricatures: Laughter is good medicine.

2.  While the forum is good for posting caricatures, by newest to the oldest posting; however, one draw-back is that it cannot sort the various caricatures into specific Topics: eg.  Ba Zi (Four Pillars),  Chinese Astrology, Eight House, Flying Star etc... 

3. I have just started to classify all the 406 caricatures into various easy to find links. Have just added only the first 50 or more caricatures under this link:-

Research Makes The Difference!

Dear Anon,

It has been a busy year for us in 2008. There has been many changes made to the website. Some changes should be noticed by users, while some are backend changes that may not be so easily noticed by users. We usually like to keep a record of changes to be added to our milestones.

1) One of the most popular changes would be the release of an updated Daily Chinese Horoscope & Ba Zi Forecast:-

2) With the Daily Forecast, we also introduced an updated Yearly Forecast Layout for 2009 and upto 2013:-

Again, we noticed that users were extremely pleased with the improved layout and highly detailed breakdown for all the different horoscope

3) With the introduction of the forecast, we had also made backend improves to the many advanced reports (which is not accessable through our online member reports). We do have some improvements planned for the Ba Zi Premium users in time to come. So look out for more on this in future updates.

4) We even launched a new wiki.geomancy.net feature to make it easy for Cecil to collate all the useful resources into one single area.

5) Due to so many postings on the forum since 1996, we found that our default search sometimes cannot find the right resources as it sorts more by the date of the post. As such, we had replaced it with the Google SiteSearch which we find able to find the correct site resources that you are looking for.

This is possible because our website is extensively indexed by Google, and that makes finding the correct resources easier with the powerful search algorithm.

6) Access to our member area and personalised report area is now enabled to require SSL encryption security. This is to provide additional security and privacy to our members.

Although, this feature was already available many years back. We did not enforce it as the report generate especially for complex report would slow down significantly. However, due to our recent dual harpertown server upgrade last year, we found that the reports would not slow down as much as it did in the past. As such, decided to enforce make SSL login a requirement for all member area.

7) eNETS Credit Card Payment Gateway since Nov 2008, need to be upgraded. We had been working on it and the new and improved gateway should be made available by end Jan 2009. The live transaction is scheduled to be ready on 19 Jan 2009 but it will take us a few days to test and make sure the integration is 100% ready before we enable it back to users to make use.

For the time being, users could still make payment via paypal.com our alternative payment gateway.

8) Server Date and Time has been changed to GMT +0800 (Singapore Time), rather than the default US server time. This is so that we no longer need to apply GMT time changes to any of our online reports. Also, this will make forum/email date and time correspond more correctly to our local time, rather than to the local time of where our server is hosted.

9) Recently, we have been using Firefox/Google Chrome/Safari browser much more than we normally do. As we were using these alternative browsers, we detected some html page formatting differences when viewed in these browsers. As I see these formatting differences, I try to fix them so that they will be viewed as correctly as it would be when you use the Internet Explorer.

10) We also constantly upgrade our server software. This is to ensure we have the latest server technology to make sure the website can support the latest technology. We also constantly make sure our website is optimised properly so that it takes a little time for the server to generate the page. This will ensure that server can handle lots of traffic at any single moment. So far we have yet to see the server slow down even with the increased traffic. 

Although we have not posted much website announcements. There has been quite a lot of enhancements made over the year. These are just some of the milestone upgrades that we want to keep track for the year.

This module is based on the our highly popular Yearly Forecast Module, but has been modified to show it on a daily basis. We also simplified it to show Good/Avg/Bad in colour coded manner for easy viewing.

I am currently working on the project of a " Wiki.Geomancy.net ". 

The main purpose of this wiki is to built on the foundations of this forum:

1. While a forum is very useful for posting and replying to daily messages, it's biggest drawback is it's inability to efficiently collate tons of daily messages in this forum.

2. How about setting up a Blog? A blog is like a daily journal of a person's activities, thoughts and aspirations.

3. While a " Wiki " can be used effectively to build a large reference "encyclopedia" of useful, organized information.

4. We are privileged to host and maintain a forum that is one of the oldest and information in this forum and entire website resources span no less than 13 or more years.

5. Bear with me, as I begin the journey of frequently updating the new "wiki!". Frankly, it may take me several months to even at least a year to "capture", collate and organize the on-going " wiki ". For the moment, the "wiki" editing is a "closed system". In the future, we may decide to allow what it's real intention, for the public to edit and refine the resources!

My intention is that it will always continue to provide information of "Real people, Real life situations " or commonly known as Applied Feng Shui!

FURTHER UPGRADING COMPLETED - 31 May 2008 (Saturday)

UPRADING COMPLETED - 20 May 2008 (Tuesday)

Dear Anon,

As of 20 May 2008 (Tuesday), we have completed our upgrading all our servers to the new servers. There was no downtime during the uprading, as it was seemlessly transferred. So far as of 22 May 2008 (Thursday), everything seems to be working fine. We had also been fine tuning and tweaking the performance of the servers.

Here are some of the notable improvements:-

- Website with dynamic database contents should will now load significantly faster (ie forum page generation time has improved at least 5 times due to memory caching, http caching and latest CGI caching).

- Report generation server also should see complex reports generated 2 times faster. Reducing the most complex report to half the time required.

- Servers are at located at two different datacenter. Even if a datacenter can promise 100% uptime, from time to time, network issues may still occur. So having servers at different sites, reduces the chances of a single point of failure at any one time by any one  single datacenter.

- Given we have setup two servers with the ability for one server to run entire site, we are able to ensure that should one server be taken offline (for whatever reasons), the other server will be able to continue to keep the website up and running. So DNS failover setup was enabled for key sites and mail servers.

- Data backup has always been our top priority, so all servers we had been using is always setup with RAID 1 Hardware mirroring (ie two harddisk mirroring the same data.) This will prevent again a single harddisk failure. In addition, we also have offsite, and NAS backup, realtime backup to the other RAID 1 server. So data will always be kept current. And/or we will be able to restore a few days older data in an event of a data corruption.

- We now have separate Hardware Firewall at each server rather than a shared firewall. This makes upgrading individual servers easy in the future without having to upgrade both. Also, this eliminate again a single point failure due to Firewall. Hardware firewall is still better than any software firewall. So we do want to compromise security.

- We took this opportunity to make sure all the software are patched to the latest version. By upgrading our server almost every year, we not only refresh new hardware, it allow us to update our software keeping everything fresh.

PRE-UPGRADING NOTICE

Dear Anon,

Thank you very much for your continued support. Our website has experienced tremendous growth over the years.

We are thus upgrading our servers to ensure that there will be sufficient capacity and processing power to allow users to be able to enjoy a faster website.

Our Dual Operton Servers (one of the better technology at that time) had served us very well. However, it is now outdated compared to what's available, so it is time to upgrade to the latest technology:-

- Dual Processor Quad Core Harpertown 2.66Ghz (8 x CPUs)
- Dual Processor Quad Core Clovertown 2.0Ghz (8 x CPUs)

These servers effectively more than double/triple the overall processing power, memory, storage capacity, latest firewall and server bandwidth compared to the existing server setup.

To further improve our network redundancy, we opted for two separate datacenter this time round. This is to provide further network redundancy from a single-point failure in case one datacenter is down. This will be an improvement over the previous setup as both servers were from the same datacenter.

Main websites has Failover DNS to ensure that should one server be down, the backup server will be on activated to keep the website up and runing.

The servers are in the final stages of testing before we offically deploy them before the end of the month.

We do not foresee any major disruption or downtime as we will seemlessly transfer the server from the old server to the new server. 

Only slight inconvience could be some duplicate mails received by users during the migration period as new server may re-process some of the old mail in server queue. Otherwise, everything should be rather seemless.

The Ba Zi Standard report has been revised to make it easier to know the difference between the Ba Zi Standard and Ba Zi Premium.

In the past, the Ba Zi Standard, is a lite version with a less detailed 10-year luck summary in the Part 3. We have revised it such that it now offers the same depth of analysis as the paid Ba Zi Premium Part 3 report. Only difference lies in that Ba Zi Standard, does not offer additional yearly forecast link which allows you to view the monthly/daily forecast for each year.

We understand that our 30-Days Auspicious for TWO Persons was extremely popular and is used by many people every day. As such, we have updated it so that it is easier to generate the report for One person.

We have revised the module so that it will automatically detect whether 2nd person's information is different or left empty. The report will then generate One person or Two person report. When the report is generated for 1 person, the 2nd profile information will be hidden away.

In the past, you have to enter the same information for the 2nd person in order to generate the auspicious date for 1. Now, you DO NOT need to enter the same information for the 2nd profile in order to generate an auspicious date for 1 person. All you need to do is skip the 2nd profile information.

We also included this auspicious date report into our Member Area so that all members can also acces the auspicious report from the member area.

In addition, we also updated the paid report with the similiar feature. This way there is only 1 module to generate the same report for One Person or Two Person(s). We have thus removed the older paid auspicious date for One person.

Some users have pointed out some description related errors in the Ba Zi v12.55. We have since corrected them in this latest revision of the Ba Zi Premium & Standard versions.

A. DESCRIPTION BUG FIXES

A1. Under Changes in your Five Element Balance (Part 3)

When percentage of the unfavourable element is equal, it showed a template which shows the favourable element description rather than unfavourable element. This text is also in blue (for favourable indication rather than unfavourable). This affects very few people due to it being hard to get percentage that are equal.

A2. Under the Luck Pillars analysis (Part 3)

You have an Earthly Branch Self Punishment found!

The explanation pillar which tries to make sense of this keep showing 1 and 2nd pillar description as such the explanation also does not refer to this portion. For the time being since this is an outdated module which is not needed anymore, I have disabled it until I have time to re-write a new module to explain the clash.

B. IMPROVEMENTS / CHANGES

B1. Clashes / Harms / Punishment etc.

Since our ba zi was written till now, we only show Clashes that are not duplicated. Meaning that if two or more pillars clashes with the same pillar, only one of the clashes will be shown and usually it will be the one that is permanent that will be highlighted. The duplicate clash which is often less important will not be shown.

For example Day and Month clash. say yin-si harm was found. Another yin-si found between say Day and Luck pillar will be considered duplicate clash. Previously, this was not shown as duplicate clash already occured once.

We have enabled this so that such duplicate clashes/harms/punishment etc will now be shown rather than hidden. This is because in current ba zi report, we have such forecast modules which does not only 10-year / 5-year / year analysis. In fact, it can go as deep into 6-monthly/monthly/daily/hourly. So with such indepth analysis. By allowing duplicate clashes to appear, it will make the forecast even more accurate by being able to tell you if a year is classified as Good / Average / Bad especially with the present grading system in place.

In our curent analysis, we used a grading system to grade the score so as to classify them as Good / Average / Bad etc. If the system is able to know that a duplicate clash is also found, then it will better be able to classify as less auspicious then previously maybe average (because no clashes were found). This will give a more accurate forecast result since it is able to consider all major and even minor clashes as well as duplicate clashes.

Users can access the report to get an updated forecast module. This will affect the forecast as those which are good/average may be classify a little lower. Giving a more true account of your luck forecast. Since our forecast report colour code the day/month/year in 3 colours, so please do not be surprised to see previously analysed as Green (Average) become Red (Bad). As mentioned, with a minor duplicate clash, the overall luck will be less auspicious then previously graded.

As there are more and more users participating in the forum, we made a few more enhancements to the forum for your benefit:-

1. Replying to a Post

We have noticed that the existing reply feature which works for the older forum interface, is sometimes causing previous replies to be wrap when less than 40 characters and a ">" being added. After a few sub quotes together, the whole quoting message get very messed up.

We have improved the posting, so that you can now properly add specific quotes which is boxed up nicely in a box to differentiate between current reply and message being quoted.

2. Original Message to make it easy for Replying

You should find this box located at the post screen. This shows you the original message that you are planning to reply. You can drag sections of text to add to your post as each paragraph is separated for you to pick and choose the correct section to reply to. This should make it easier for you to select quotes and easily refer to the original post for replying.

In addition, if your original post contains HTML tables, you will now be able to cut and past these as part of the reply for the post. In the previous quote system, such formatting would have been lost as the content was converted to plain text only.

3. Posted by Me (Fixed)

Many users have been telling me that the Posted by Me cannot properly see message that is not yet approved but posted. I have found the bug causing this feature to work properly. You should be see messages that are not yet verified.

Firstly, we would like to apologise if some posts have never been verified for replying. This is due to several factors:-

1. The older forum interface didn't have very good admin module that allowed us to access older post easily. As such, if a post is too deep in the list, it may not be seen by us to approve it.

2. Sometimes duplicate postings were made, as such in the old forum interface, there wasn't an easy way to delete them as such we usually leave them unverified.

3. In the old forum interface, most messages which are posted as a 3rd or 4th reply, sometimes does not get noticed due to the way the forum sorts the system by main topics date rather than last reply date.

4. The old forum interface was getting too slow due to more and more users participating and posting messages. As such, it was getting very difficult to quickly clear the new postings.

So there were messages which never seen by us as such left unreplied.

Anyway, since our new Forum Interface has been added, many of these flaws were corrected. Users should noticed that in the past couple of days, I have been doing a massive clean up, approval of unverified messages, as well as replying to as many messages as possible.

As of today, most messages that were still outstanding until about Nov 2004, has been approved and attended to. Older messages still in the unverified queue has been deleted. This is to ensure that future postings will not be cluttered by the older posts. So users who still wants our reply, please re-post them again.

In addition, I will personally be dedicating more time to maintaining the forum together with Cecil.

The new PHP Webboard Forum Interface v1.0 is converted from our Perl Forum Interface to greatly enhance the usability and access performance.

Though the previous Perl Forum Inferface was working fine. It was performing sluggishly especially with the increasing number of visitors to the website accessing the forum. As such I had spent the past few days converting the Perl Interface to the PHP Webboard Forum.

Features PHP Webboard Forum Interface v1.0

1. Faster Forum Pages (for Forum List, Topic List)

2. A new Read Post module was added so that once you view a topic, it displays all topics sorted from Last Post to Oldest Post. This PHP version also generates much faster than the original one.

3. File Attachment count also added back to the Topic List so that messages with file attachment is more easily noticed.

4. Many SQL coding refinments were added which improves the SQL access time.

5. User Login have also been greatly improved. This allowed for more closer integration between the Members Area and Public Pages. You should noticed that once you login, the system remembers you the next time you access the forum pages (without further need to login again).

Our existing forum software has very extensive features and database, thus it is essential that we keep those features and database in place by enhancing the core forum interface and still continue to retain the original features.

As the website is getting more and more visitors and hit, we needed to re-optimise the server to improve the web page loading.

1. Web pages

In order to improve the performance, we set a new cgi server specifically to handle all the various additional scripts so that load is evenly distributed.

2. Forum Performance

In order to improve the performance, we optimise the pages so that unnecessary features such as the site navigation menu are not loaded. SQL server cache buffer has also been increased, and forum buffering has been optimised to get overall best performance.

3. Members Area

By default the members area now utilise Secure Encryption mode (SSL) so that all transaction to the member area are 100% secure from third party viewing.

4. Forum Feature (Posted by me)

In order to avoid duplicate postings that can clutter our message review process, I have allowed the Posted by me feature to display messages which is posted by you but not yet approved.

EDITED: A minor update made to fix an error in one of the Water Star which instead showed it at Mountain Star due to a typo during a check in the stars. (ie instead of checking against water star, it compared to the mountain star). This has been corrected in the v8.02.

Dear Anon,

In addition to the previous update, I have added a few new features for the flying star report.

This is because it seems that many users are not clear on issue about period 7 and period 8.

1. Please note here that a house build in say period 7 (1984-2003), will continue to retain it's 20-year base chart of period 7, until you decide to change it to the next period. This goes for period 6 (1964-1983) as well.

This means that it will not automatically mean that your chart will be a period 8 chart the moment you enter into period 8. In fact, what it means here is you have an option to check if period 7 or period 8 is better. Then decide on making the move to a period 8 chart.

2. However, what will change is the influence on certain stars ie star 7 will not be considered auspicious on its own now that we are in period 8, meaning that it will revert to the original Robbery Star which is inauspicious on its own. Thus, if you viewed the flying star for a period 7 house now, compared to before 2004, you will find that the luck will change a little. This is because the period 7 houses will now be entering what we call the fading prosperity. It will not completely use it's influence but will not be as strong anymore.

3. So in order to make this clearer in our latest report, what we have done is to give users an opportunity to view the next period influence and thus give you the chance to see if you should change to a new period. If you do decide to EFFECT the change in period, it is best you re-create a new profile under that period and use that instead of your old period.

4. So you should now see an option such as this under the flying star chart

View the period 8 report, to see if you should change your existing house luck to the next period to benefit from the change in 20-year influence.

5. In addition, the older yearly/monthly module is really no longer needed as the current flying star report not only show you the 20-year, current year and all the current year months star from Jan to Dec.

Dear Anon,

This is some updates to the previous release of v12.5x. We noticed some irregularities in the analysis modules.

1. FIXED THE YEARLY LUCK SUMMARY RANKING

a. Corrected the ranking system that helps defined the Year being Very Good, Good, Average, Bad & Very Bad. The latest ranking give every possible option equal ranking so more accurately give you an idea of how good or bad each year is.

b. Fixed a but in the Part 3 report where some of the year summary does note match the analysis from the other modules such as our Group Analysis summary. This was due to a bug in the system obtaining the wrong pillar information thus not giving the right analysis for some of the year.

c. Fixed the yearly forecast report so that the year colour coding will match the part 3 and group analysis summary.

This update should correct all the various analysis modules so that they will reflect the same analysis. It adds on the many enhancement made in the v12.5x, you can read more about that from this link:-

EDITED: In addition to the release of v12.50 yesterday, a minor release on the v12.51 was released a day later.

1. To fix a bug where the clash/harm/punishment/self punishment wasn't showing properly, thus not giving a proper analysis for the yearly luck analysis.

2. In addition the Yearly Luck analysis description was further refined.

3. Executive Summary released for all users to enjoy.

We have made a massive revision to the Pillars and Group Analysis modules. These two reports each contain different advanced analysis modules. In this latest revision, we integrated common components so that they can be shared between reports. In addition, we made the Pillars of Destiny module even more robus allowing cross analysis between 10-year luck and it's yearly luck.

This will make it easier to add even more analysis module and make the modules interact more closely together.

1. Addition of the Five Element Balance chart in each 10-yearly luck pillars.

This will allow us to re-calculate the impact of the 10-yearly luck pillars to your existing five element distribution. Which impacts how much more of a particular element you need compared to another. We are working to bring this available to even the yearly analysis so as to give greater depth to the forecast modules.

We may still revised the element percentage so as to give proper rating depending on 10-year, 5-yearly, yearly, 6-month etc. For time being only 10-yearly chart has been released. In future, we will expand it further.

Example 1:-

Water Wood Fire Earth Metal 49 % 1 % 49 % 0 % 0 %

You are a Weak Fire. Generally, you will need more Wood and Fire, while avoiding any Water or Earth. In order to be effective, you should know how the current 10-year luck period affects your original five element distribution. So for this 10-year period you should fine tune your favourable elements as follows:-

Favourable to you

Your favourable element Wood (1%) and Fire (49%). You will need more Wood (1%) than compared to Fire (49%) to improve the luck for this period.

Unfavourable to you

While, your unfavourable elements are Water (49%) and Earth (0%) You will to avoid Water (49%) more than Earth (0%) to improve the luck for this period.

2. Revised the Yearly summary in Ba Zi Part 3

Previously in our last revision, the yearly report keep only showing Good and Average. The Bad and Very Bad did not show up properly. To help differential year which is unfavourable as compared to year which is bad and have clashes or harm. We had revised this so that it breaks up into Very Good, Good, Average, Bad and Very Bad. This will make the previous years which were classify as Average more clearly.

Example 2:-

This portion to summarise the luck for the year was greatly enhanced.

Given that there is more comprenhsive analysis done, the final analysis for the year summary might be different from previously analysed. But it gives a more accurate assessment of the year. Though, this does not impact your analysis as it is just a summary of the year whether we consider it good or bad etc. This revision in the grading of the year will be expanded to the yearly forecast chart 10-year colour coding only. Most analysis does not use this portion to so nothing major except description.

There are more complicated analysis ruleset now in place so, it is far more accurate to be able to properly define the year being Very Good, Good, Average, Bad or Very Bad.

This was a feature not possible in older version due to the complexity of the 10-yearly and yearly. In our latest revision, we made it possible to relate them together, rather than depending on a separate detailed analysis report.

In addition, we also show all the symbolic stars available for each year. This will make the analysis even more useful in determining potential romance luck etc.

3. More details released for the Yearly Forecast Module

The Yearly Forecast module will now contain more details for each of the monthly analysis.

4. Executive Summary for Age

This is an example of an small portion advanced analysis report which has been released to all users to enjoy. A very plain english explanation of the luck pillar. In addition, it also points out useful information about possible career Major or Minor change / academic luck / romance luck that happen in that period. This is one portion that we have tested for a long time and found it ready to be released for all users to enjoy.

Example 4:-

Executive Summary for Age 3 - 12 (1974 - 1983)

Unfortunately, luck isn't with you during this 10-year period. This means that you have to work even harder on your own to gain success during this period. 1974-1978 luck is much better than 1979-1983. You are also very lucky to have nobleman luck where you will meet some people who will always give you a helping hand.

Be prepared for some slight hichups especially for any major event. However, once you overcome it things will usually end well.

This is a good period for you, especially if you are studying as you have the aid of the Acadamic star.

Remember to ensure that you look after your health by watching your diet and ensuring you keep yourself fit so as to avoid any potential health issues.

5. Other Advanced Ba Zi Analysis improved.

Many more Advanced Ba Zi Analysis modules have been updated but not released to general public. These analysis are now being used for our on-site audit as well as expert review to assist us in analysing your chart in greater detail.

These new features are available for all Ba Zi Premium report users. Users may now login to re-generate the report so that you get the most uptodate and even more accurate analysis.

We have upgraded all Pillars of Destiny Standard which was still accessing an older v8 report to be able to access the many improvement from the v12.50.

The Overview Summary report which usually only Pillars of Destiny Premium used to enjoy will now be made available to Pillars of Destiny Standard. .

The main difference is that Ba Zi Standard will not have a detailed analysis module until only 5-yearly analysis as well some of the new modules listed by the recent Pillars of Destiny Premium.
