As it's essence is used to flavour Nonya cakes and used in many deserts and there is even a pandan cake. Some Singapore Taxi drivers and even Singaporeans place a bunch of this pandan plant in their car. To them, it is believed that cockroaches dislike this plant and thus is used as a natural method of getting rid of roaches in a home or car. To many from overseas, they may find this smell as pungent as smelling the local durian fruit. The family name of this plant is: Pandanaceae and it's common name is called fragrance pandan. This plant is relatively easy to grown in a home. And is also one of the all time favourites of households or Singapore flat "gardeners".
